Job Purpose  

The Maintenance Lead is responsible for plant maintenance operations. The role has accountability for ensuring plant areas and equipment are maintained in an efficient, safe, and reliable manner. The role leads a skilled team responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant performance while supporting continuous improvement across the facility. 

 

The Maintenance Lead is responsible for developing talent, optimizing maintenance strategies, and partnering with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence in a dynamic chemical manufacturing environment. 

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities 

  • Maintain a highly trained and competent maintenance workforce, ensuring effective policies and procedures are implemented. Collaborate with plant leaders and managers to optimize resource allocation.  
  • Develop objectives and processes aligned with company and regulatory requirements.  
  • Ensure maintenance performance metrics clearly demonstrate success in achieving site service and operational strategies.  
  • Partner with leadership to develop and integrate EHSA compliance processes within manufacturing teams.  
  • Lead maintenance team initiatives to develop, implement, and monitor quality system processes.  
  • Provide direction across all maintenance functions, including mechanical integrity, to ensure work processes are cost-effective, reliable, and efficient.  
  • Maintain a strong and proactive safety culture, supporting Hazard Recognition and Total Safety processes.  
  • Support manufacturing leadership in the development and control of the annual operating budget.  
  • Oversee maintenance activities, including planned (scheduled) work and emergency/interruption work, ensure timely and effective execution.  
  • Ensure maintenance schedules remain current, and that preventive maintenance (PM) tasks are completed on time, including cross-training personnel for backup coverage.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree in technical or related field or five (5) years of experience in lieu of degree  
  • Ten (10) years of experience in Chemical, Manufacturing or related industry   
  • Five (5) years of leadership experience in Chemical, Manufacturing or related industry  
  • Strong understanding of:  
    • Maintenance and reliability practices  
    • Mechanical systems and equipment  
    • Safety and compliance standards (HSE/EHS) 

 

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field  
  • Experience with process control and cost management  
  • Ten (10) years of Leadership/Supervisor experience  

 

Competencies and Skills

  • Knowledge of chemistry, chemical process techniques, and basic operation of industrial mechanical equipment 
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities  
  • Effective communication and organizational skills  
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement  
  • Ability to balance safety, reliability, and cost performance
